about

(Justin Russo) Back in the 90’s, we were in college, and all the students lived in rows and we all used to come outside when the weather got nice and jam together. I wasn’t very good at playing but I fell in with a group of guys who were always thinking and talking about songs, so that’s what I did too. I remember first bringing the chords for Purple Balloon to my brother and him going “Duuuuuuuuude, we gotta play this”, so we did and then eventually we got Grasshopper (Mercury Rev) to play on the track, and that’s his guitar that gives the song it’s magically-affected quality. When we first played it as a band, Dalia joined in singing the chorus, and it immediately became part of our sound. (Jason Russo) Being in a band with your brother is great because you can write songs about your childhood. This EP was the height of Justin and I trying to write music about our earliest memories. In retrospect, we were in our early 20s and processing the loss of innocence. The idea of 'Purple Balloon' is emblematic, we were bummed that it eventually gets popped or flies away.
